WEEKLY ROUNDUP beef

Welcome once again to my weekly roundup…If you have missed any posts then sit down with your favourite cuppa and have a browse…

The Charade.

A little while ago my friend and author S C Richmond send out the offer of co-writing a few chapters of a story she was working on…For the last couple of weeks, Steph has been posting some of the chapters which I have been sharing with you all. To read all the chapters to date head over to Steph’s website…

Fruity Fridays saw a post about the Juniper Berry a berry which I knew existed but hadn’t cooked with until I moved to Thailand.

Then it was the turn of a beautiful lady who suffers from ALS…A terrible disease which I didn’t know much about and devastates lives …The most famous person I had heard of who suffered from ALS was the recently bereaved Stephen Hawkins…

The lovely courageous Lisa on her wedding day…Please read her story and when you have finished shedding a tear like I did acknowledge her for the beautiful lady that she is …

No to Diets and Yes to Healthy Eating ...I am looking at a few countries which we all are familiar with and their place on an obesity chart and the food they eat as a nation…Why? You may well ask ..just because I can and I find it interesting and I hope you do …No more Diets France

I just cannot believe the claims some people make and they are not doctors…Lose 8 lbs in 3 days, 11 lb in 2 days, 45 lbs in 3 weeks…WHO believes this absolute crap !

Wednesday it is my Cookery column over at Sally’s and the topic with recipes was Beef.

https://smorgasbordinvitation.wordpress.com/2018/05/09/smorgasbord-blog-magazine-the-food-and-cookery-column-with-carol-taylor-recipes-beef-stroganoff-corned-beef-thai-beef-salad-nam-doc-nua/

As health is dear to my heart then I also reblogged a post on Cholesterol written by Sally. She has many years experience and talks common sense unlike some of the claims I have mentioned above and if you really want to lose weight and keep your body in good condition then listen to those who know and not those who make exaggerated claims.

Orienthailiving and Retired No One Told Me! Weekly update…Korlan fruit, Obesity and Barfly…

Welcome once again to my weekly roundup…If you have missed any posts then sit down with your favourite cuppa and have a browse…

A few reblogs this week as I have the dreaded cough from hell and it is driving me mad…I think I need to step up my healthy eating as I have been doing a bit of unhealthy eating lately and as this is my first cough for at least 5 years I suspect it is a warning to get back on track… I have always had one of these coughs and it makes my ribs hurt it is such a fierce cough so I am stepping up the ginger and getting back on track as I really don’t do ill… I am the grumpiest person on this earth if I don’t feel 100%.

Germ

Fruity Friday’s brought forth a lovely sweet n sour tiny little fruit given to me by a tuk-tuk driver he picked them from a tree in his village… Looking like a very small lychee it was quite hard to peel and had a very sour flavour compared to the Lychee which is quite a perfumed taste and sweet.

Over to Orienthailiving where I took you on a trip around one of my favourite towns in Phuket… The fascinating Phuket Town…

Travel Thailand Phuket town

https://myhealthyretirement.com/travel-thailand-a-tour-of-phuket-town/

Not feeling like writing too much I had a trawl through my older posts and this one is a charming post about Ole Smoky Moonshine, chillies( of course), an old man, roast chook and a  recipe for Homemade Moonshine Hot Sauce.

https://blondieaka.wordpress.com/2018/04/28/barfly/

You ask I answer is totally different from Barfly and is about our friend Mr Militant Negro so if you want to know a little more about the man in question then this is the post to read…

https://blondieaka.wordpress.com/2018/04/29/you-ask-i-answer/

The Charade is the brainchild of my friend Steph the author of The Community, After The Light after the Love and Pictures of  Deceit. It started as just a thought and with an invite for any other author to write a chapter or two …where will the story end? We don’t know yet but it is intriguing and has promise…To date, there are 15 chapters some written by Moi…download-3the-charade

https://blondieaka.wordpress.com/2018/04/30/the-charade-part-1/

No more Diets just Healthy eating… I am taking a trip around the world and looking at various country’s eating habits…This week it is Germany which although they are not high on the worlds obesity chart as they do a lot of walking and cycling and keeping fit is high on the agenda as a nation BUT their consumption of processed meats/fats is high so will it cause problems in later life for many individuals?

Next, as many of my readers and friends are experiencing snow and bitterly cold weather, Soup was on the agenda…

Orienthailiving and Retired No One Told Me, Weekly update…Tamarind, Obesity and Horseradish.

Carols Weekly Update 26th April

Quite a mixed bag this week in this weeks update not so many posts. I have lots of ideas but haven’t translated them into posts… I have been trying to do more work on my Cook Book it is taking shape and has lots of recipes so I am now filling in the blanks you all know how I love to chatter …Don’t you?

The first post in this update is my monthly guest post on the Recipe Hunter and this month it was the letter C and surprise, surprise not a chilli in sight… haha… There are Curry Plants, Cloud eggs and much more but I don’t want to spoil it if you haven’t read it yet.

Next, we have Fruity Fridays which is the lovely Tamarind. This week I have a lovely rare Thai fruit for you… The reason I love it here as I come across some little gems quite by chance and this is just one example…It was sooo hot so we decided to get a tuk-tuk back from shopping..The driver was a lovely old Thai man and he had a bag of fruit in the back of his tuk-tuk and of course being nosey well …lol…Tiny little dark pink fruits like small lychee and being generous like all Thais he gave me some…It has taken me a lot of research and I have found out very little really but all will be revealed tomorrow in Fruity Fridays. An unexpected treat, the other one was my neighbours were picking their mangoes and of course gave me some, one weighed exactly a kilo it is a whopper of a mango…

Carol’s boot camp… Obesity was the theme this week and will be for the next couple of weeks…I happened on a chart and of course, I wanted to see where Thailand came in and the UK …  a few hours later the idea for a post was born  I started with Thailand as it is where I now live and I will be finishing with the top and the bottom of the chart…Comparing eating habits and the types of food per capita… Just a little exercise really… To see if there are any common factors or foods/lifestyles… I hope you enjoy it!

Orienthailiving and Retired No One Told Me, Weekly update…Charcoal covered eggs, Fried Insects and Peppercorns.

CAROL'S Weekly Update 19th April

Well, this has been an exciting week…Songkran celebrations ( Thai New Year) Sunshine and tropical storms and the discovery of some new foods for me…

This was a first for me these dry, salted duck eggs covered in a black, soot ashes and charcoal powder a new year gift from our local shopkeeper. Here in Thailand, there are many ways of preserving and salting eggs which have been passed down through the generations some very nice ( as were) these salted eggs some not so nice …I don’t fancy eating embryos however they are dressed up …

Fruity Fridays came around and it was the Rosella Fruit one which I had only previously had as tea but on coming across the fruits discovered that they made a lovely jam and an awesome chutney.

It was then the turn of Sally’s weekly roundup and Mustard seeds were my topic that week… Making mustard is very easy as I soon discovered when I was unable to purchase any here so decided to have a go and make my own.

https://smorgasbordinvitation.wordpress.com/2018/04/15/smorgasbord-weekly-round-up-william-price-king-sings-paul-andruss-and-hellebores-and-carol-taylor-and-mustard/

Songkran and Thai New Year somewhat got in the way so some of my posts fell a little by the wayside.

Healthy Eating and No to Diets was on the subject of snacks … Songkran bought out all the unusual to us westerners bar snacks…Crispy fried insects, pork scratchings, Eggs of all sorts and dried fish which is very popular here…So, of course, I treated you all to a glimpse of those snacks which certainly elicited some comments.

https://blondieaka.wordpress.com/2018/04/18/healthy-eating-no-more-diets/

Over to Sally’s for my cookery column where I discussed peppercorns of various colours and a recipe for some lovely Pork in Peppercorn Sauce.

Orienthailiving and Retired No One Told Me! weekly roundup…Coconuts, Mustard seeds and Walking

CAROL'S weekly update 12 April

Kicking off first for my weekly roundup is that wonderful fruit which is the Coconut…My drink of the day is a lovely fresh glass of coconut juice a truly healthy but very nice drink, healthy doesn’t have to mean that you hold your nose and down it in one while gagging it means something you love which is at the same time healthy..to be enjoyed as all good food and drinks should be… Welcome to Fruity Fridays…

Healthy eating out! Not so easy if you have to avoid certain food groups…Many restaurants now do state on their menus what or whom certain foods are suitable for… Do they go far enough? Not yet but many are making great strides but as always forearmed is forewarned and it is always better to know for yourself what to look for and what questions to ask. Although my list is not exhaustive I hope it goes someway to helping when you eat out and have to follow a Gluten Free diet. Cheers!

Lastly, we have my weekly column over at Sally’s and this week the theme is Mustard… Now don’t tell anyone…shhhhh but my all time favourite is some lovely bread, toasted with some lovely crispy smoked bacon and lashings of mustard… And before you say it… So nice… Just going for a nice brisk walk!

Healthy Eating time and Moi was back on her soapbox… Added Sugars…Did you know that just one can of soda exceeds the daily recommended guidelines so if you are a soda drinker and consume a few cans a day  you could very soon rack up those extra unhealthy pounds/kilos…It is those sneaky manufacturers again… The ones I just love to hate…

Lamb is  something I don’t have very much here and when I do I will be making this dish…When you see it and read the recipe you will be drooling it sounds awesome and so moreish I just had to reblog  this post from John Reiber. Once  I get my hands on that elusive piece of lamb… I am like a female  Sherlock Holmes when I start looking for something 🙂 so hopefully it will be very soon…I will be indulging 🙂 Thank you, John a very nice recipe.

Orienthailiving and Retired No One Told Me… A weekly update…Fruit shrubs,Mon Ton and Mulberry Crumble.

Weekly update 29 marchGood afternoon from warm but not so sunny Thailand and welcome to my weekly roundup which is quite smaller this week as I haven’t been quite so prolific with my writing… Lots of thoughts nothing put down just a bit of an alright week with my internet problems  still hovering in the background so if you haven’t seen me then I should soon be back up and running …Full steam ahead  once more 🙂 x

My first and ( only) post this week on Orienthailiving was one of my favourite places a very pretty temple way up in the hills in the Phrang Nga district of Thailand…Well worth a visit and it has never been absolutely jam-packed with tourists like some of the other temples we have visited maybe due to its location  and on the way back we always stop at one of our favourite seafood restaurants again a little off the beaten track but very charming.

Wat Bang Riang

https://myhealthyretirement.com/travel-thailand-wat-bang-riang-phrang-nga-thailand/

Then it was the turn of Fruity Fridays and the luscious Mango it is now well into  season and they are everywhere… Beautiful eaten green with a spicy Thai dip and wonderful made in Chutney or just a lovely smoothie 🙂 x

Egyptian flatbread are an amazing  way to use up cold Lamb not only do they look impressive especially if you have guests but the taste is spot on…Just finger licking good.

Egyptian lamb flat breads (2)

https://blondieaka.wordpress.com/2018/03/25/egyptian-lamb-flatbreads-2/

Then I did a post on something which many of the men suffer from here GOUT and most do not watch their diets apart from one who learnt the hard way that keep having injections does not always do your health any good and the danger here is that you can walk into any clinic ask for the injection and away you go …I just wish more people would realise that with a few tweaks to your diet many ailments can be avoided …The plus side less medication and maybe when you really need the doctor his queue is smaller.

https://blondieaka.wordpress.com/2018/03/27/healthy-eating-ditch-the-purine-rich-foods-and-say-goodbye-to-your-painful-gout/

Carol’s  Boot camp enter at your own risk…sensible adults only allowed… No Diets… Just Healthy eating and lifestyle …Moderation… I don’t want to know what you weigh… I don’t want to hear excuses…No excuses here…You cheat..You cheat your health..Your well being.. I give you ideas and recipes of good healthy food… No powders, No pills and how to make your own Protein Drinks…

No-diets-No-excuses

Who do you cheat??? Yourself!

Vinegar was the theme of my Cookery Column this week and what a versatile ingredient it is and it can lift that dish to new heights and so many varieties and if you don’t know what a SHRUB is then all has been revealed… So pop on over…If I am not around then the lovely Sally will make you very welcome…

Lastly we have Ton Mon which are Thai Mulberry’s not only are mulberries very nice with some apples in a crumble and my very first attempt at deconstruction ( don’t ) tell my mum I have ditched her crumble recipe…Fruit crumble

I will fess up and tell you…I burnt the first one …set the timer and went to write..Before the timer even went off I could smell it…That burning smell…

But take two:- It was perfick all I got was a teaspoon full the rest was quickly taken away as soon as my camera had clicked and devoured by the Mr. Anyone would think I never make puds….Well I am a bit mean…I don’t make many but he loved it! https://blondieaka.wordpress.com/2018/03/28/apple-and-mulberry-crumble/

Mulberries are also one of the favourites of the silk worm who produce the silk for the famous Thai Silk…Read about it here
